Julia Panke Makela, Ph.D., CCC is the Associate Director for Assessment and Research of The Career Center at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. With more than 20 years of experience in the field, Julia develops resources and builds communities to help career practitioners bring out the best in their programs and services. Through practitioner-engaged program assessments she works to continually enhance career development practice while communicating the value of career services.

 

Julia has served NCDA as a member of the Ethics Committee (2005-present; Chair 2009–2012) and the Publications Development Council (2012 – 2020), as well as contributing to a variety of association publications. She is the lead author of NCDA’s program assessment monograph, Learning outcomes assessment step-by-step: Enhancing evidence-based practice in career services (2012), and the ethics case study monographs, A Case Study Approach to Ethics in Career Development (2009, 2017). Her contributions can also be found in Career Development Quarterly, Career Convergence, and Career Developments Magazine.

 

Julia earned a Ph.D. in higher education from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, a M.S. in counseling from Florida State University, and a B.S. in computer science from Cornell University. In 2019, Julia was recognized as a NCDA Fellow.
