The Career Development Quarterly Call for Proposals for a Special Issue

The Career Development Quarterly (CDQ) is seeking manuscripts for a special issue addressing immediate and long-time impact of COVID-19 pandemic on career development and career intervention. In this special issue, we aim at scholarly inquiry of the direct and indirect impact of the pandemic to individuals’ work and life and intersectional of poverty, inequity of resources, disparity of health, demographic factors, and other pertaining factors. The special issue will focus on the theory, research, practice, advocacy, and/or program development for career development intervention in post-pandemic era. We are inviting both conceptual and empirical manuscripts that address one or more aspects of the aims of this special issue.

We are looking for a wide range of representation of manuscripts and will evaluate proposals on their relevance to the aim of this special issue, as well as potential contribution to the theory and for practice. Full manuscripts will undergo a peer review process; therefore, please note that there is no guarantee of eventual acceptance of any submitted manuscript. All manuscripts must conform to the author guidelines for the Career Development Quarterly (see http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/cdevq).

Topics can include, but are not limited to:

  • Examining application of career development theories to address the pandemic impact;
  • Career development and social justice intersectionality;
  • Integration of career development and social justice theoretical framework for enhancing career intervention practice;
  • Career intervention practice in responses to COVID-19 impact;
  • Advocacy efforts to end injustice, disparity, and discrimination;
  • Career intervention strategies to help hard hit populations by COVID-19;
  • Evaluating practices/approaches/outcomes/interventions.


The proposal needs to include:

  • Title or tentative title
  • Indication if this is an empirical or conceptual manuscript
  • Detailed information on the purpose of the manuscript, study information (if applicable), and outlines/structure of the manuscript
  • The proposal should not exceed 3-pages and should be double spaced, 12-point font, and 1-inch margins.


Tentative timeline:

  • Submission of 3 pages proposal to tangmi@ucmail.uc.edu  by November 15, 2020
  • Invitation to submit full manuscript will be provided to authors by the guest editors by December 15, 2020
  • Submission of completed manuscripts through http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/cdevq by March 31, 2021 (all submissions should follow author guidelines and submission requirements listed on the website)
  • Submission of final manuscript revisions by May 31, 2021
  • Anticipated Winter 2021 publication.
