NCDA Announcement:

Addressing International Travelers’ Concerns About Visiting the United States for the

NCDA Global Career Development Conference in Minnesota in June 2026

Recent global discussions and media coverage have highlighted a range of concerns among international travelers considering travel to the United States. These concerns are not uncommon during periods of heightened global uncertainty and reflect broader issues related to safety, accessibility, transparency, and traveler well-being.

Common concerns expressed by international visitors include:

  • Uncertainty around entry requirements and visa processes, including changes to immigration policies and border procedures.
  • Perceptions of personal safety, particularly related to crime, discrimination, or unequal treatment of foreign visitors.
  • Health and emergency preparedness, including access to healthcare, insurance requirements, and response protocols.
  • Cultural and social climate awareness, including concerns about inclusivity and respect for diverse nationalities, cultures, and identities.
  • Transportation and infrastructure reliability, especially for first-time visitors navigating large urban areas.

To help address these concerns and support safe, confident travel, the following safeguards and best practices are recommended for international travelers:

Suggested Safeguards for International Visitors

  • Review official travel guidance and entry requirements from trusted government and embassy sources prior to departure.
  • Request an invitation letter from NCDA if applicable – email nscrimsher@ncda.org with your request
  • Ensure all travel documentation, visas, and authorizations are accurate, up to date, and easily accessible during travel.
  • Purchase comprehensive travel and health insurance that covers medical care, emergencies, and trip disruptions.
  • Stay informed about local laws, customs, and emergency contact numbers in the areas being visited.
  • Use reputable transportation services and accommodations and share travel itineraries with trusted contacts.
  • Seek out institutions, destinations, and service providers that demonstrate clear commitments to safety, accessibility, and inclusivity.
  • When registering for the 2026 Conference, select the Ambassador Program: "I am an international participant and interested in having an NCDA ambassador at the conference." You will be matched with an experienced conference attendee with international experience who will support you throughout your stay in Minneapolis.

The United States remains a destination of significant cultural, educational, and economic opportunity. By acknowledging traveler concerns and encouraging proactive safety measures, NCDA hopes these guidelines can facilitate informed decision-making, foster mutual understanding, and create a safer and more welcoming travel experience for international visitors.  We look forward to welcoming you to Minneapolis.

Sincerely,
