Supplemental Material: Guiding Clients in a Capabilities-Driven Job Market
By Jennifer Hay
The purpose of these use cases is to demonstrate how a multi-dimensional career assessment can add value to a storytelling narrative and how that narrative can be used to create a resume summary and resume bullet items, as well as when interviewing.
Sophia, Talent Acquisition Coordinator
Demonstrated Capabilities: Data sourcing and integration, AI literacy, judgment.
Sophia's Storytelling Narrative:
Sophia has worked in talent acquisition for 3 years at a professional services firm. Her background is in communications.
When hiring managers across four departments could not say which recruiting channels were actually working, Sophia sourced and combined time-to-fill, source-of-hire, and interview outcome data from three disconnected systems into a single weekly tracker.
When the volume on one job board pushed her toward an AI resume screening tool, she piloted two and rejected the one that filtered out qualified candidates with nonlinear career paths after checking its output against real interview results. She knew the difference between a pattern worth acting on and one that was just noise, which is what let her trust her own read over the easier answer.
Sophia's dashboard became the standing report every hiring manager in the firm now uses, and her recommendation led leadership to reallocate recruiting budget.
Sophia's Resume Summary:
Talent Acquisition Coordinator with 3 years of experience turning scattered recruiting data into decisions hiring managers trust. Skilled at pulling information out of disconnected systems and combining it into one clear picture, evaluating AI tools with a critical eye instead of taking their output at face value, and using good judgment about when a pattern is real and when it is noise. Known for taking on problems no one has assigned yet and following them through to a result leadership acts on.
Sophia's Resume Bullets:
- Sourced and combined time to fill, source of hire, and interview outcome data from 3 disconnected systems into a single weekly tracker, closing a visibility gap across 4 hiring departments.
- Piloted and evaluated 2 AI resume screening tools, identifying and rejecting one that down-ranked qualified candidates with nonlinear career paths after validating its output against real interview results.
- Built a hiring funnel dashboard and presented data-backed recommendations to hiring managers, leading leadership to reallocate recruiting budget within her first 3 years on the job.
Maria, Operations Manager
Demonstrated Capabilities: Accountability, business acumen, AI literacy, technology literacy.
Maria's Storytelling Narrative:
Maria has worked in operations for 4 years, at a midsized logistics company. Her background is in business administration.
When a seasonal shortfall traced back to a bad call on vendor capacity, Maria stood up in the leadership review and owned the miss. She laid out exactly what she had gotten wrong and what she would change before the next peak season. She didn’t let the blame land on her team or the forecasting tool.
When the company considered renewing a shipping contract that promised lower rates, she analyzed a full year of delivery and cost data, showed leadership her analysis logic, and helped avoid signing a costly agreement.
When she began using an AI assistant to draft vendor performance reports for leadership, she caught it fabricating a delivery statistic that did not match the underlying data, and is now checking AI output against the real numbers before it leaves her desk. She is comfortable enough in the logistics platform and dashboards to pull her own data and troubleshoot small issues herself.
Maria's willingness to own her mistakes and question a deal that looked good on the surface is what makes these capabilities useful.
Maria's Resume Summary:
Operations Manager who is trusted to make the tough calls and own the results. Comfortable pulling her own data from logistics platforms and dashboards, questioning content before it reaches leadership, and evaluating vendor deals on the numbers rather than the pitch. Known for taking accountability when something goes wrong and using that same directness to challenge decisions that do not hold up.
Maria's Resume Bullets:
- Took ownership of a seasonal forecasting miss in front of leadership, identifying the root cause in vendor capacity planning and outlining specific changes ahead of the next peak season.
- Analyzed a full year of delivery and cost data to evaluate a proposed shipping contract renewal, showed leadership her analysis logic, and helped avoid signing a costly agreement.
- Reviewed AI generated vendor performance reports against underlying data, catching a fabricated delivery statistic before it reached leadership, and built a standing habit of verifying AI output.
David, Tech Product Engineer
Demonstrated Capabilities: Data literacy, technical and business literacy, communication, conflict navigation
David's Storytelling Narrative:
David has worked as a Tech Product Engineer for 5 years, most recently building an internal analytics platform. His background is in computer science, and his work spans engineering, data, and the business side of the platform.
He pulls and analyzes platform usage data every sprint to see which features people rely on before deciding what to build next. He is comfortable enough in the underlying architecture to troubleshoot issues himself instead of waiting on another engineer, and he can translate what the platform needs into terms both engineers and business stakeholders understand.
When 2 engineering teams disagreed sharply over how to prioritize a major platform rebuild, David spent a week talking to both sides individually before proposing a compromise that addressed each team's real concern, not just their stated position. That conversation is what got the teams to trust the plan enough to ship the rebuild on schedule instead of stalling in disagreement.
David's technical fluency and his ability to bring people along are what turn his ideas into shipped features. That combination is why he was asked to lead a companywide platform strategy initiative.
David's Resume Summary:
Tech Product Engineer with 5 years of experience who builds features people use and gets teams to agree on how to build them. Comfortable writing code and reading the platform usage data behind it, translating what the numbers show into decisions about what to prioritize next, and bringing 2 sides of a disagreement to a plan they both trust. Known for shipping on schedule even when the path there was not obvious at the start.
David's Resume Bullets:
- Analyzed platform usage data every sprint to identify which features teams relied on, using those findings to guide what the roadmap prioritized next.
- Diagnosed and resolved issues within the underlying platform architecture directly, reducing dependence on other engineers for routine troubleshooting.
- Resolved a sharp disagreement between 2 engineering teams over how to prioritize a major platform rebuild, and proposed a compromise that addressed their real concerns, keeping the rebuild on schedule.
